Important Information Regarding Third Party Data Breach

Posted Date: 10/20/26 (01:00 PM)

The School District of Oconee County is responding to a cybersecurity incident involving Frontline Education, a national third-party education software provider used by school districts across the country, including SDOC.

The cybersecurity incident occurred within Frontline’s technology environment and was not the result of a breach of our district systems. According to Frontline's general notice, the type of information potentially compromised varies by school district and individual. Additional information is available on Frontline's website: Information and Support Regarding Recent Cybersecurity Notifications | Frontline Education.

The company identified a vulnerability in a third-party software product in August 2026 that allowed unauthorized access to a portion of its environment containing data related to Frontline Central and School Health Management. Frontline Central is a product that many districts use to store and manage employee information. School Health Management is a product that helps manage nursing services for our students.  These are the specific Frontline products of interest currently.

At this time, we have received limited information regarding data that may have been compromised in this situation, but have not been provided the full scope of the incident or the specific types of student or employee data.

Frontline has stated that they have conducted an investigation with the assistance of an independent cybersecurity firm, remediated the vulnerability, engaged law enforcement, and implemented additional security safeguards.

This is not an incident isolated to the School District of Oconee County. Frontline serves school systems nationwide, and the incident has affected districts across the country that utilize the impacted products.  Upon receiving notification of the incident, our district team initiated a response plan and reported the matter to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). We continue to communicate with Frontline to seek additional information regarding the impact to our students and employees.

Frontline is working with affected school districts and is responsible for notifying individuals whose personal information was affected. They will contact affected families directly with information regarding the data involved, available resources, and any recommended next steps.

Frontline states that its platforms are currently operational and secured. We recognize that this assurance does not answer every question or address the full impact for our employees and families. Please know that we are taking this situation seriously, will continue to monitor details closely, and will communicate additional verified information as it becomes available.
